Staying Positive

I tend to be a pretty cynical person if left to my own devices. I used to roll my eyes at inspirational quotes, hide emotion-filled Facebook posts from my feed, and I’d regularly question the sanity of my constantly upbeat friends.

Thinking that way absolutely sucks. I was getting upset over things that should either have no effect on me whatsoever or should be making me happy. That’s no way to go through life.

Life is full of ups and downs, and trying to stay positive means you can learn to enjoy the good in life and deal with the bad. Being overly cynical means you try to seek out things that make you upset. It’s a pretty crazy way to act when you really think about it.

Staying positive is how I’ve gotten through every stressful period of my life. That faith that things will get better or turn out alright kept me sane while I *made* things turn out alright.

Let me just state for the record that being positive doesn’t mean being mindlessly happy no matter what happens to you. I get sad, angry, upset, and all of those other emotions that are part of the human experience. Being positive means you are capable of celebrating life’s victories and not dwelling on the low points.

Complaining accomplishes nothing. You need to make change happen. Life is too short to dwell on the problems you’re facing. You need to make positive change happen, no matter how impossible it may seem. Now go out there and kick it.
